From 27 June to 4 July 2026, Roskilde, Denmark, became home to one of Europe’s largest music gatherings. Roskilde Festival 2026 welcomed around 140,000 participants for its sold-out 54th edition.
Eight Days of Music, Art and Culture
Founded in 1971, Roskilde has grown into much more than a traditional music festival. The 2026 edition combined international concerts with art, performances, activism, food and a huge camping community.
The programme included 177 musical acts from 37 countries, spread across seven music stages and additional festival venues.
Some of the Biggest Names in Music
The 2026 lineup brought together an unusually diverse collection of international artists, including The Cure, Gorillaz, Zara Larsson, Jennie, David Byrne, Little Simz, Lily Allen, Wolf Alice, Addison Rae and Ethel Cain.
One historic moment came from Jennie, who became the first K-pop artist to headline a Danish festival.
The Legendary Orange Stage
At the centre of Roskilde is the famous Orange Stage. For 2026, the festival introduced a new and larger version of the stage, marking a new chapter in Roskilde’s history.
With tens of thousands of fans gathering in front of it for major headline performances, Orange Stage remains one of the most recognisable sights of the Scandinavian festival season.
A Festival With a Different Purpose
Roskilde is also unusual among Europe’s major festivals because it is independent and non-profit. Around 27,000 volunteers help create the event, and profits are donated to humanitarian and cultural initiatives, particularly projects benefiting children and young people.
Scandinavia Meets the World
With artists from 37 countries and more than 130,000 people temporarily forming the festival community, Roskilde demonstrates the international scale of Northern Europe’s live-music scene.
