Copenhagen
Copenhagen is one of Northern Europe’s most attractive destinations for live music, festivals, culture and major international events. Its compact city centre, waterfront spaces and distinctive Scandinavian atmosphere mean that concerts and festivals often feel closely connected to the city itself.
The biggest name on Copenhagen’s music calendar is Roskilde Festival, held just outside the capital. One of Europe’s largest and longest-running music festivals, Roskilde attracts major international artists alongside emerging performers across rock, pop, hip-hop, electronic and alternative music.
Inside Copenhagen, Copenhagen Jazz Festival transforms the city every summer. Concerts take place in traditional music venues as well as parks, historic squares, cafés and waterfront locations, creating hundreds of performances across the city and making jazz part of Copenhagen’s everyday street life.
Another major summer highlight is Copenhell, Copenhagen’s internationally known rock and heavy-metal festival. Taking place in the industrial surroundings of Refshaleøen, it brings some of the world’s biggest rock and metal acts to a dramatic waterfront setting.
Electronic music also has a strong presence. Distortion turns Copenhagen neighbourhoods into an enormous urban celebration, combining street parties, electronic music and nightlife. Later in the summer, Strøm Festival explores electronic music through clubs, public spaces and unusual locations around the city.
Copenhagen is also home to major concert venues such as Royal Arena, which regularly welcomes internationally touring artists, while Tivoli Gardens has a long tradition of hosting live performances and summer concerts in the heart of the city.
Beyond music, events such as Copenhagen Pride, cultural festivals, design events and seasonal celebrations bring another dimension to the calendar. During winter, Christmas markets, illuminated streets and the atmosphere of Tivoli transform the city once again.
What makes Copenhagen particularly special is the combination of large international events and an intimate city experience. Visitors can spend the afternoon exploring colourful Nyhavn and the harbour, attend a major concert or festival in the evening, and continue into Copenhagen’s restaurants, bars and nightlife.
From jazz performances beside the canals and huge arena concerts to electronic street parties and major summer festivals, Copenhagen offers a distinctly Scandinavian setting for experiencing some of Europe’s most memorable live events.
