Paris is one of the world’s great destinations for live music, festivals, culture, fashion and spectacular public events. Iconic architecture, historic streets and enormous outdoor spaces give events in the French capital a setting that few other cities can match.

One of the most atmospheric moments of the year is Fête de la Musique, celebrated every June. For one night, music spreads throughout Paris, with professional and amateur musicians performing in streets, squares, bars, parks and cultural venues. Walking through the city becomes part of the festival itself.

Summer brings several of Paris’s major music festivals. Rock en Seine, held at the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, welcomes major international and French artists across rock, pop, indie and alternative music. Few Parisian events are as visually spectacular as the celebrations surrounding Bastille Day on 14 July. Military ceremonies, public festivities and evening celebrations culminate in a spectacular fireworks display around the Eiffel Tower, creating one of the most recognizable event scenes in Europe.

Sport brings another dimension to Paris. Roland-Garros attracts the world’s leading tennis players every spring, while the Tour de France traditionally concludes in Paris. Major football matches, international competitions and other sporting occasions regularly bring large crowds to the capital.

Paris is also synonymous with fashion and art. Paris Fashion Week attracts designers, celebrities, media and visitors from around the world, while major exhibitions and cultural events continuously transform museums, galleries and unconventional spaces throughout the city.

During winter, illuminated avenues, Christmas markets, department-store displays and seasonal performances give Paris another distinctive atmosphere. New Year celebrations around central landmarks bring the year to a spectacular close.
